Regulations in relation to Bylaw Enforcement

The following regulation relates to the enforcement of local government bylaws by Municipal Ticket Information under Part 8 - Bylaw Enforcement and Related Matters of the Community Charter.

• The Bylaw Enforcement Ticket Regulation (B.C. Reg. 425/2003) prescribes eligible bylaw matters for ticket enforcement, establishes categories of persons who may be bylaw enforcement officers, establishes the maximum fine penalty in relation to ticket offences, and prescribes the form of tickets and affidavits. These matters were previously dealt with by the Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Ticket Regulation (B.C. Reg. 352/89). This regulation is authorized under section 273 of the Community Charter and applies to regional districts and the Islands Trust.

Under the regulation, matters that are excluded from municipal ticketing are limited to firearms and motor vehicle speed limits and the maximum fine penalty in relation to a ticket offence is now $1,000.
