Municipal Engineering Services Branch Mandate
Mandate: Provide Engineering Coordination for Ministry
Programs
- Allocate available grant funds fairly and equitably among
competing infrastructure projects, and ensure Provincial
priorities are met
- Promote planning for infrastructure growth and renewal by
allocating Infrastructure Planning Grants to local governments
- Ensure appropriate use of various reserve funds by local
governments (including improvement districts) for infrastructure
construction and renewal
- Ensure that servicing issues are addressed in other ministry
programs
- Advance ministry positions on public issues regarding
municipal infrastructure
Mandate: Provide Engineering Advice to Local
Governments
- Promote Provincial priorities: protection of public health;
protection of the environment; preparation of
growth strategies
- Encourage sound infrastructure planning by local governments
with grants and with participation in their planning process
(for liquid waste management plants, in value engineering, etc.)
- Promote sound management practices for infrastructure with the
long-term objective of saving taxpayers money:
- water conservation
- reduction of sewer inflow/infiltration
- efficient operation of water treatment plants and sewage treatment plants
- preventive maintenance programs, etc.
- Help small local governments in planning and implementation of
infrastructure works
- Advise local governments about grant
programs and how to make applications for grant funding
