Intergovernmental Relations & Planning Division
The Intergovernmental Relations and Planning Division's work is to further relations
between governments in British Columbia, support
community planning, advise on
regional growth strategies, assist rural communities
and offer dispute resolution services.
The division provides support in the following areas:
- advises and assists local governments and provincial agencies
on community planning;
- supports and promotes effective management of growth in the
fastest growing regions in British Columbia;
- fosters and encourages positive interaction between the
province and local governments; and
- helps resolve conflicts between government jurisdictions in
British Columbia through dispute resolution services.
The Division's mandate in relation to
land use planning
is to assist local government in community and regional planning.
IRPD provides advice and assistance to both local and
provincial agencies and facilitate the co-ordination and liaison between local
governments and provincial ministries and agencies in regard
to provincial interests.
Other initiatives include:
- participation in the development and implementation of new legislation,
regulations, policies and procedures;
- working towards the establishment or improvement of effective local
government planning and development management systems; and,
- helping to develop and achieve provincial objectives, programs and initiatives.
