PROVINCIAL FUNDS IMPROVE WATER QUALITY IN CANAL FLATS

CANAL FLATS - Aug. 15, 2007 - Minister of Community Services Ida Chong (right) presented a Towns for Tomorrow grant of $400,000 to Canal Flats Acting Mayor Tricia Doherty. The funding will allow the Village of Canal Flats to create a unified drinking water system and improve water quality for 138 residents and Canal Flats Provincial Park.

The Eagle’s Nest drinking water system will be connected to the Village’s drinking water system, removing a long-term boil water advisory. Upgrades include the construction of a new groundwater well, a reservoir, a water treatment plant, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and associated water pipelines.

Towns for Tomorrow is one of four programs announced by Premier Gordon Campbell at the 2006 Union of BC Municipalities convention, aimed at making B.C. communities greener and healthier places to live.
