BC TRANSIT SERVICE COMES TO SALT SPRING ISLAND

SALT SPRING ISLAND –  Jan. 7, 2008 - Community Services Minister Ida Chong (second on the right) joined residents of Salt Spring Island and funding partners as they celebrate the launch of the Salt Spring Island Transit System. Also on the bus are Union of BC Municipalities President Susan Gimse, (standing behind Minister Chong), Salt Spring Island's Capital Regional District director Gary Holman (second on the left) and Sidney Mayor Don Amos (seated, front right), chair of the Victoria Regional Transit Commission.  Several students, including Ryder Bergerud (front left) from local high school, entertained the well wishers. Funds to purchase two minibuses were provided by the UBCM's Public Transit Infrastructure Program which delivers $52.5 million to B.C. communities. Read the Jan. 7 BC Transit news release.
